Even with an arrest and a charge laid, the mother of a Penticton man who was murdered last year says there is still no closure.

Elizabeth Hawlryliuk says there's comfort in knowing someone was arrested but she says she remains a "broken woman".
Hawlryliuk says she doesn't understand why someone could kill someone they don't know.

Police have laid a second degree murder charge against Michael Richard Beuchamp for allegedly killing 53 year old Terrence Dale Wooley behind Slack Alice's bar back in April 2009.

Police found Wooley unconscious near the back door, he was transported to hospital in critical condition, and died a month later.

When asked why it took so long for an arrest and to lay charges, Cpl. Clayton Wiebe says the investigation was extensive.

Wiebe says 97 percent of patrons at the bar were interviewed and other tips from the public were compiled.

Wiebe says the accused has a criminal record.  He says the incident occurred outside of the Slack Alice's but stemmed from an altercation inside the pub.

Next court date for Michael Richard Beauchamp is March 22nd.
